Creating value, together

Together, Balfour Beatty and SCAPE deliver projects at the heart of local communities and create critical national infrastructure via rapid access civil engineering frameworks.

Since the start of our partnership in 2015, we have added over £404 million of social value to local communities and economies through projects procured via SCAPE’s Civil Engineering frameworks.

From roads to rail, flood and coastal, as well as broadband and electric vehicle infrastructure, we apply our proven expertise, innovative solutions and robust risk management practices to successfully deliver a wide range of civil engineering projects. We are committed to creating lasting value and helping our customers achieve their sustainability and economic goals.

At Balfour Beatty, we're more than just a partner — we seamlessly integrate the expertise of our teams, customers, designers and supply chain partners from the inception of every project. Together, we develop a shared understanding of the project's vision and critical success criteria. This collaborative approach ensures the best decisions are made at every stage of the project lifecycle, from validating business cases and securing funding to optimising design, programme and budget.

By leveraging early contractor involvement and our pre-established, market-tested frameworks, we can reduce procurement time by up to 80%, lower project costs by an average of 15% and deliver 31% added social value.

As a project evolves, our expert engineers and supply chain partners proactively identify, mitigate and manage risks. Working closely with designers and architects, we ensure that every solution is constructed safely, efficiently and tailored to your community's needs.

Delivering Right First Time, we use the latest technologies and modern methods of construction, along with transparent processes and effective project management to minimise change, maximise value and ensure successful project outcomes.

Our team of local social value and environmental experts support the delivery of each project from the outset, ensuring a positive and sustainable impact for local stakeholders and communities.

Building New Futures

Since Balfour Beatty launched its refreshed sustainability strategy – Building New Futures – in 2020 the Group has made significant advances in key areas, including achieving almost 50% of its 2030 £3 billion social value target.

They have also prioritised pushing technological boundaries given one of the main barriers to progress is the gap in the technology that is available to help drive down carbon emissions.

Across the UK, US and Hong Kong, each of their businesses are developing bespoke sustainability action plans to ensure they address specific local challenges and priorities and leave a positive legacy in the communities they serve.

Uniting each of their sustainability action plans are their three 2040 ambitions:
