Together with AtkinsRéalis, we are proud to mark a major milestone with over 250 commissioned projects across Scotland through the SCAPE Scotland Consultancy Built Environment framework.

As a strategic partner on the Built Environment framework, AtkinsRéalis has played a key role in delivering impactful projects across residential, education, civic, and public buildings. From net-zero housing to award-winning university campuses and emergency service infrastructure, the team continues to shape a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient built environment for Scotland.

AtkinRealis began working with SCAPE in 2008 and is delighted to be able to build on the successes of our previous frameworks. We're currently working together on ambitious projects across Scotland for a diverse range of clients, including:

  • Scottish Fire & Rescue Service
  • East Dunbartonshire Council
  • University of Edinburgh
  • East Ayrshire Council
  • Forestry and Land Scotland
  • Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
  • Glasgow School of Art

“It is great to see AtkinsRealis reach such a significant milestone for projects appointed through our Built Environment Consultancy framework. The variety of projects and clients engaged across them is a testament to both the quality of service provided and their commitment to delivering the framework commitments to meaningful social value delivery which benefits the communities they are working within."

Gary Meechan,

Operations Director - Scotland & Northern Ireland, SCAPE Scotland

A trusted partner across Scotland

With strong local presence and national expertise, AtkinsRéalis has delivered projects in every region of Scotland, including the Islands. Notable highlights include:

Residential

AtkinsRéalis is a trusted delivery partner for net zero housing transformation, supporting local authorities in both retrofit and new build programmes. In partnership with Fife Council and via the SCAPE Consultancy Built Environment Framework, over 7,400 homes have been delivered, regenerating brownfield sites and incorporating sustainable technologies such as air source heat pumps and PV panels. These projects not only support Scotland’s climate goals but also improve the quality of life for residents by creating warmer, more energy-efficient homes and revitalising local neighbourhoods.

Education

AtkinsRéalis continues to set the benchmark for excellence in education and was named Consultancy of the Year for the fifth time at the 2024 Learning Places Scotland Awards. Through the SCAPE Consultancy Built Environment framework, the team has delivered a range of projects for the University of Edinburgh and the University of St Andrews, including the award-winning, nine-year redevelopment of the Edinburgh Futures Institute. Recently, we were appointed to deliver the new Lenzie Academy, a transformative £88 million high school for East Dunbartonshire Council.

In addition to major capital projects, AtkinsRéalis is actively supporting local authorities with accelerated refurbishment works and community-focused developments. We recently completed refurbishment works at Bearsden Primary School and are currently on site at Milngavie Primary School.

Civic and Public Buildings

AtkinsRéalis has delivered more than 125 projects for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, supporting operational resilience and modernisation across the country. Our multidisciplinary teams have worked on a wide range of initiatives, including dignified facilities and contaminant control refurbishments at Wholetime Fire Stations in Inverness, Dingwall, Galashiels, Newcraighall, and Calton. We’ve also overseen visual inspections and structural risk assessments of RAAC panels at 14 stations, providing mitigation and remediation advice in collaboration with subconsultant Will Rudd Davidson. In addition, our team has supported various minor refurbishment and project works, helping ensure safe, functional, and future-ready facilities across Scotland.

Putting clients at the heart of delivery

We’re proud to share that our projects consistently receive high praise from clients, with an average feedback score of 9.1/10. Client feedback is more than a metric; it’s a basis of how we grow and improve. By actively listening to our clients, we refine our approach, celebrate what’s working, and address areas for improvement. These high scores validate the dedication of our teams, strengthen trust, and foster long-term partnerships.

Delivering social value at scale

Social value is embedded in everything we do. Our dedicated team in Scotland works to ensure our projects deliver meaningful and measurable impact across communities. We actively support local SMEs and promote inclusive supply chains, helping to strengthen regional economies.

Work under the Framework has included providing pro-bono services to charities such as Cyrenians, mentoring students through Chapter One literacy programmes, and offering guest lectures and training sessions for local authorities. We also create pathways into employment by offering apprenticeships and job opportunities.

To date, we’ve generated £2.3M social return on Investment (SROI) through the SCAPE Scotland Consultancy Built Environment framework, helping to build stronger, more resilient communities across the country.

“Reaching this 250-project milestone is a proud moment for our team and reflects the strength of our partnership with SCAPE Scotland. Together, we are delivering projects that support communities, promote sustainability, and contribute to a better future for Scotland. We look forward to continuing this journey and creating lasting impact across the country”
