Lennoxtown High Park

Sector: Leisure

Framework: SCAPE Scotland Construction

Client: East Dunbartonshire Council

Budget: £4.5m

Completion: March 2024

Location: Lennoxtown, East Dunbartonshire

"I am delighted to see this project come to fruition and now open for the people of the wider Campsie area to enjoy. It has been a longheld plan to have a sports facility such as this in the area and it looks fantastic. This community asset represents a major capital investment in the village and I know that it will be well-used by local clubs. The project has been delivered on budget and I am pleased to see that bookings are now open for the new facility just in time for the Easter holidays.”

Councillor Paul Ferretti,

Convener of East Dunbartonshire Council’s Place, Neighbourhood and Corporate Assets Committee

The new facility at Lennoxtown High Park is a multi-million-pound project that has revitalised an underutilised sports field. This state-of-the-art, all-weather sports pitch has provided local clubs with a home to develop their skills and host events.

The new community sports complex, which opened in 2024, was developed for East Dunbartonshire Council by Morgan Sindall Construction, using the SCAPE Scotland Construction framework. The project was completed ahead of schedule, marking a winning start for this new centre, which is designed for both adults and children to enjoy.

A new football facility was needed to allow for more frequent use throughout the year, as opposed to the current restricted use due to weather conditions and also provide an enhanced community resource for the people of Lennoxtown.

The original grass playing fields have been replaced by a single 3G astroturf pitch, which now means that it can be used throughout the year as opposed to the previously restricted use during the winter months.

The existing single-storey pavilion has been extended to increase capacity and now boasts two new changing rooms, in addition to the original two, as well as toilet and shower facilities and an equipment store.

Other improvements to the site include drainage and ground retention works - in order to alleviate issues with standing surface water - and floodlighting to the pitch. Spectator standing areas have also been included, as well as additional parking for both cars and bikes with associated street lighting.

CITB figures indicate that the UK will need an additional 251,500 construction workers by 2028 to meet anticipated demand. This is a cause that SCAPE Scotland and its partners are deeply committed to. In October 2023, in collaboration with our SCAPE Scotland partners, we held a unique, large-scale Work Taster event open to anyone aged 16 and over. Young people travelled from various locations to participate, and one group from Lenzie Academy was particularly eager to build on what they learned during the event.

Since October 2023, Morgan Sindall has provided Lenzie Academy students with site visits to their SCAPE Scotland project in Lennoxtown, allowing them to gain hands-on experience regarding the design and construction of a sports pavilion and pitch.

We welcomed six pupils and two teaching staff to the site, where Mor Project Manager Gregor Forsyth delivered a brief presentation and guided the pupils on a tour. During the site visit, the pupils examined project drawings, and Gregor discussed the importance of crafting a strong CV, including what it should contain and tips for standing out when applying for a first job. They also covered career pathways, interview skills, self-presentation, and the importance of punctuality.

"All of the students at Lenzie Academy thoroughly enjoyed their construction site tour with Morgan Sindall. They particularly enjoying seeing the site in person and speaking with people who are working in the construction industry about their career options. They learned about careers and pathways they had never heard of and considered before and really appreciated the positive, aspirational message. For many of them this has validated their interest in this area but has made them consider what pathway and route they want to take now they have a better understanding of their options." - Ms Gibbons, Principal Teacher of Developing the Young Workforce - Lenzie Academy
