Bringing the older community together in Ayrshire, SCAPE Scotland, together with our delivery partners Arup, AtkinsRealis, Balfour Beatty, Kier, McLaughlin & Harvey, Morgan Sindall, Perfect Circle, and RJ McLeod, proudly hosted a community lunch as part of the Community Legacy Programme.

Community groups from East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire, and South Ayrshire were invited to a day of food, fun, and fellowship. The event, held at the WG13 community hub in Kilmarnock, a social enterprise run by CVO East Ayrshire, featured a lunch, entertainment including sing-alongs, dancing, and bingo, as well as goody bags and a raffle. By hosting the event at WG13, it supported the local social enterprise through food and room hire.

Approximately 40 guests attended the event, all of whom were members of community groups dedicated to supporting older adults. The event marked a significant shift in community engagement for the construction and built environment sector, which has traditionally focused on schools and further education institutions.

To ensure accessibility, SCAPE Scotland and our delivery partners arranged transportation for attendees from various community hubs to the venue, making the event as inclusive as possible.

The event was met with smiles, laughter, and gratitude from those in the room, highlighting the impact that collaborative efforts can have on communities and reinforcing the importance of inclusivity in industry.

The volunteer team included Angela and Rachel from SCAPE, Jessie from AtkinsRealis, Christina and Chloe from RJ McLeod, Elizabeth from Morgan Sindall, and Dennie from McLaughlin & Harvey. Entertainment was provided by Daniel, also from McLaughlin & Harvey, who kept spirits high and energy up throughout the afternoon.

"By delivering this sponsored lunch in collaboration, we were able to reach community groups that are often overlooked by our industry".
